A building permit is required for a stand-alone building/structure occupying an area of 10 meters square or greater, the introduction of or any alterations to a heating or plumbing system or where there is any material alteration of a structure (including an addition regardless of size).  Most signs, pools, hot tubs and decks require a building permit.  If you are unsure due to the nature of your project, please contact the Building Department.

The Building Department also provides an inspection service.  The owner and/or contractor contacts the Building Department for an inspection at certain stages of construction and these vary depending on the nature of the project.

These inspections are necessary to ensure that you and your contractor are constructing the project according to the plans, the manufacturer's specifications and the Ontario Building Code and to ensure the safety and integrity of the structure for its intended occupants.
