Nomination of Candidates
 
Candidates for the offices of Reeve, Deputy Reeve, Township Councillor or School Board Trustee can file their nomination papers between Monday, January 4, 2010 (regular office hours) and Friday, September 10, 2010 ( 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.).

Candidate Eligibility

  • a person who wants to be a candidate in the 2010 municipal elections must be a qualified elector.
  • a person seeking office for a school board must reside within the jurisdiction of the board and be a supporter of that board.
  • a person seeking elected office must not be prohibited by law to do so.
Offices for nominations
  • Reeve - 1 elected at large
  • Deputy Reeve - 1 elected at large
  • Township Councillor - Ward 1 (Amherst Island) - 1
  • Township Councillor - Ward 2 (Bath) - 1
  • Township Councillor - Ward 3 (Ernestown) - 3
  • School Board Trustees
    • LIMESTONE DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD (English Public)
      (One (1) to be elected by public school electors of the municipalities to represent the municipalities of Loyalist and Stone Mills Townships. Nomination Papers to be filed with the Clerk of Loyalist Township).
    • ALGONQUIN & LAKESHORE CATHOLIC DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD
      (English Separate).
      (One (1) to be elected by separate school electors of the municipalities to represent the Prince Edward County, Town of Greater Napanee, Townships of Loyalist, Stone Mills and Addington Highlands). Nomination Papers to be filed with the Clerk of Loyalist Township.
    • CONSEIL DES ECOLES CATHOLIQUES DE LANGUE FRANCAISE DU CENTRE-EST
      (French Separate).
      (One (1) to be elected by French language separate school electors of the municipalities, to represent Hasting, Prince Edward, Lennox & Addington and Frontenac Counties. Nomination Papers to be filed with the Clerk of the City of Kingston.
    • CONSEIL DES ECOLES PUBLIQUES DE L'EST DE L'ONTARIO (French public)
      (One (1) to be elected by French language electors of the municipalities to represent Lennox & Addington, Frontenac and Leeds & Grenville Counties.  Nomination Papers to be filed with the Clerk of the City of Kingston.

    The number of trustees to be elected in the municipality on the four school Boards is subject to the final determination and distribution of trustees in accordance with the Education Act.

Getting nominated
A candidate can nominate himself or herself for elected office by filing a Nomination Paper at the Loyalist Township Election Office (The responsible municipal clerk may vary for elections for school board trustees) during regular office hours. Nomination papers must be filed by a candidate, in person, or by an agent on the candidate's behalf.

Nominations papers can be picked up at the Loyalist Township Election Office in Odessa and will be available on the Township's web site by January 2010.

Filing fees
Candidates must pay a filing fee when they substitute their Nomination Papers. These fees must be paid at the time of filing - by cash, certified cheque or money order. The filing fee for a candidate running for Reeve is $200. The fee for a candidate running for Deputy Reeve, Township Councillor or School Board Trustee is $100.

Deadline
The deadline for candidates to submit their Nomination Papers is Friday, September 10, 2010, at 2 p.m. The deadline for the withdrawal of a nomination is Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at 2:00 p.m.
