Flooding-related Cleanup for Waterfront PropertiesJune 12: Observations made within the last few days seem to indicate that the water level in Lake Ontario may have peaked, with the exception of any future shoreline surges caused by winds.
When the emergency has passed, Loyalist Township staff will turn their attention from emergency management to cleanup. For residents who have used sandbags to help protect their home and/or property, staff are currently reviewing options as to where the sandbags can be disposed of once the lake level has decreased. Residents will be advised when a decision has been made.
Many residents have also reported that debris, carried by high water and waves, has been deposited on shorelines and lawns. The issue of where and how to dispose of this debris is also being reviewed by staff. Again, information will be forthcoming when a decision has been made.
