Patrick Pidgeon Memorial Dedication
Fallen Firefighter to be Honoured with Memorial in Loyalist Township Park
September 28, 2017 (Odessa, Ontario) – On Thursday, October 4th at 10:15 a.m., the Amherstview Lions Club, along with Loyalist Township, will dedicate a memorial in honour of Fallen Firefighter Patrick Pidgeon. The Memorial located in Loyalist Park in Amherstview will provide an everlasting tribute to the sacrifice Firefighter Pidgeon made in service to his community. Members of the public are invited to join representatives from Loyalist Township Emergency Services, Loyalist Township Council and the Amherstview Lions Club for the Memorial unveiling.
Patrick Pidgeon succumbed to injuries sustained while battling a fire on July 16, 2016 at 339 Amherst Drive in Amherstview. Pidgeon had served the Loyalist Township community for 1.5 years as a member of Loyalist Township Emergency Services. He had also spent time serving in the Canadian Armed Forces as well as in the Correctional Service of Canada.
In the days that followed the fire, a tremendous outpouring of support was received from the local community. The Amherstview Lions Club was among the groups that stepped forward with an interest in helping. The Lions Club wanted to acknowledge and pay respect to Patrick Pidgeon’s service and sacrifice. In collaboration with Loyalist Township Council and Staff, and through consultation with Patrick’s widow, Karen Green, the idea of a Park Memorial was established.
The Memorial tribute to Patrick Pidgeon will be located at the east end of Loyalist Park (Amherst Drive & Pratt Drive, Amherstview). The Memorial will consist of a park bench, tree and inscribed plaque.
Loyalist Township is a growing community of 17,000+ people situated on the north shore of Lake Ontario between the Town of Greater Napanee and the City of Kingston.
