Garbage and Recycling
Loyalist Township mainland households have garbage and recycling collected on the same day of the week, each week. Garbage is collected every week. Recycling collection alternates between blue box one week and grey box the next.
To find your collection day, start by identifying your location on the collection areas map below. You can click the map to see a larger version (PDF).
Streets outlined in pink are Collection Area 1; blue are Collection Area 2; and green are Collection Area 3.
The collection schedules are published in our Loyalist Township Municipal Calendar. This is a sample page:
The sample illustrates that the first week shown is a blue box week, and the second week is grey box (to find out what goes into your grey and blue bins, visit our Recycling page). The numbers 1, 2, and 3 stamped on the garbage can and recycling bin icons represent the collection areas. Area 1 is Tuesday, Area 2 is Wednesday, and Area 3 is Thursday. This is the regular pickup schedule.
In the event that a statutory holiday falls on one of the normal days, your collection dates may change. Collection may take place earlier in the week than you are accustomed to. It is important to consult the calendar to verify your collection schedule. Here is an example of a holiday collection schedule:
In the sample, Areas 1 and 2 have both moved a day earlier than normal, during both the weeks of Christmas and New Year's Day. Area 3 falls on Friday during the week of Christmas and on its normal day, Thursday, during the week of New Year's Day.
Much time and effort goes into planning the collection schedules each year, as the Public Works Division must coordinate with both Progressive Waste Solutions, the contractor who collects garbage and recycling; and the Kingston Area Recycling Corporation, where Loyalist Township's recyclable materials are taken.
The Municipal Calendar is delivered to Township households each December. Additional copies are available at the Odessa Municipal Office, the W.J. Henderson Recreation Centre, and the Leisure & Activity Centre.
