Community ProgramsGiveaway Days
2017 Giveaway Days will take place on April 22, June 17, and October 21.
On Giveaway Days, give away items you no longer use, for FREE pickup by your neighbours who may want them.
How to put items out:
Place items at the curb in front of your home
Place stickers or signs on the items with the word ‘FREE'
If placing out clothing or other items in plastic bags, use clear or translucent bags. This helps to separate Giveaway Days items from garbage.
At the end of the day, bring in any uncollected items. Loyalist Township will NOT collect unwanted items left at the curb. Consider donating unwanted items to a local charity.
How to pick items up:
Respect other people's property: don't walk on lawns or gardens.
Take only the items marked ‘Free’ and placed at the curb.
Don't leave previously picked up items on the curb at other people's property.
What to put out: Books, CDs, DVDs, furniture and small appliances, electronics, construction materials (including drywall, lumber, hardware), kitchen gadgets, dishes, cutlery, pots and pans, and unwanted gifts.
What not to put out: The Consumer Product Safety Bureau of Health Canada advises that these items should NOT be given away (or picked up): baby walkers, cribs, car seats, strollers, playpens, bath seats, mattresses, blinds and toys.
Do you want to help clean up your neighborhood? Do you want to get involved in your community? The County of Lennox and Addington's Adopt-a-Highway Program is a public service program providing an opportunity for volunteers to enhance local litter collection activities by collecting litter along County road allowances. The program allows environmentally conscious citizens to make a personal contribution to a cleaner and more beautiful environment.
Under the program, groups or an individual agree to adopt a section of a County road allowance and collect litter. A sign will be erected by the County to acknowledge the volunteer's efforts. For more information on the program, please visit the County's website.
