Both Loyalist Township Residents during the recent municipal election campaign, and the 2017 Recreation Master Plan Public Consultation identified the need for a dog park located within the Township.
The Township recognizes the benefits of designated off-leash areas that provide safe areas for owners to exercise and socialize their dogs and the 2017 Recreation Master Plan clearly identifies the importance of the issue and the need to develop an off-leash dog play area within the Township. (Recommendation #47)
Considerable research has been done in the following aspects: demand, benefits, impacts, risks & risk management, planning process, key components, site considerations, site assessment criteria, design considerations, factors contributing to successful dog parks and regulations/legislation.
The dog park project was proposed for 2019 but did not receive approval in the final 2019 Capital Budget. The project will be proposed again for consideration in the 2020 Capital Budget.
