Animal Control

All dog owners are required to purchase a dog tag each year for each dog they own or keep on their property.

The Township has contracted Frontenac Municipal Law Enforcement as animal control officers for the municipality.

Dog Tag Fees – The regular rate for a dog tag is $30 per dog, per year. Dog tags go on sale in late November for the upcoming year, and can be purchased at a discounted rate of $15 until March 31. As of April 1, the regular rate of $30 applies. No exceptions are made to this rule.

If your dog loses its tag from the current calendar year, a replacement may be purchased for $4.

Animal Control Complaints - Complaints regarding stray or barking dogs should be made by calling Frontenac Municipal Law Enforcement, 613-541-3213.

Some Requirements Under the Dog Control By-law are

The Dog Control By-law states that any owner of a dog which defecates in a public place must clean up the droppings and dispose of it in a sanitary manner. There is a $75.00 fine for this offence.
Dogs must also not be permitted to run at large at any time and must be on a leash when in a public park. There is a $75.00 fine for this offence.

If you have previously purchased tags but no longer have a dog, you are encouraged to notify the Administrative Services Department at the Odessa Municipal Office, 613-386-7351, ext. 100, to have your information removed from our database and avoid followup from a By-law Control Officer.
