Duncan Ashley was first elected to the Amherst Island Council in 1994. He served as Reeve (1995-1997) for Amherst Island and as a member of Lennox & Addington County Council.

He was elected to the newly formed Loyalist Township Council in 1998 as the representative for Ward 1 - Amherst Island and has served 4 consecutive terms as the Amherst Island representative.

He has served on Heritage, Cemeteries, Planning and Community Policing Committees and is presently the Loyalist Township representative on the Recreation Committee, Taxi Commission and Ferry Committee.

Duncan and his wife Kim, live on Amherst Island with their two children.
