John, his wife Pat and children, Bryce and Dawn, moved to Amherstview in 1967. In 1978 John was elected to the Lennox and Addington County Board of Education serving 19 years. During that time John served on all the Board's Standing committees and was Chair of the Board for 6 years.

Since being elected to council in 2000, John served these two council terms on the following committees: Loyalist Parkway Association (1 yr), Taxi Commission (3 yrs); Cemetery Committee (4 yrs), Recreation and Property Advisory Committee (2 yrs); Heritage Committee (3 yrs); and various ad hoc committees, including salary and benefit review and light up the season.

Beginning his third term on council, John is has been appointed to the Recreation and Property Advisory Committee and is council's representative on the Eastern Ontario Water Association.

John is presently a member of the Amherstview Golf Club and has, in the past, been active in bowling, fastball and hockey as a player and minor league coach.
John is enjoying retirement from the Ministry of Transportation after a 35 year career in draughting.
