In the late 1990's Reeve Clayton McEwen put forth a motion in a council meeting to develop a formal induction and location of those persons and teams that were already recognized, for athletic contributions and successes, through a display at the W.J. Henderson Recreation Centre. As chairperson of the Parks and Recreation Committee Don Smith accepted the job to form a committee to complete the task for council.

Don contacted every group involved with athletics within the township looking for input and volunteers. From that search a small group began the job of developing the criteria for nomination and selection.

As well, the group put together the more tangible aspects of the awards. A master plaque was commissioned that will be mounted in the foyer of the W.J. Henderson Recreations Centre. A book that will hold photographs and a description of the recipients accomplishments will be constructed and maintained by the committee. The book will be on display in the library.

The first induction ceremonies were held in June of 2002

• Ted Carson representing adult sports and educational based athletics
