Residents of mainland Loyalist Township have recycling collected each week, with collection alternating between blue box one week and grey box the next. The collection schedules are published in the Loyalist Township municipal calendar. Recycling collection is contracted to Waste Connections (previously called Progressive Waste). Recyclables must be at the curb by 7 am on your collection day, and will normally be collected by 5 pm. If you have a recycling issue, please contact the Engineering Clerk at 613-386-7351, ext. 116. You may also contact Waste Connections at 613-548-4428.

Loyalist Township residents may also take their recyclables, free of charge, to the Kingston Area Recycling Corporation (KARC), 196 Lappan's Lane, Kingston. It is open year round, Monday to Friday from 8 am to 5 pm, and Saturday from 8 am to 4 pm.

Amherst Island residents must take their recyclable materials to the Amherst Island landfill.

New residents are entitled to one free blue box and grey box per household (available at the Odessa Municipal Office and the W.J. Henderson Recreation Centre). Additional grey and blue boxes may be purchased for $8 each. If your recycling box is damaged, return the damaged one to the Odessa office where it will be replaced, free of charge.

What is accepted for recycling?

Loyalist Township has a two-stream recycling program, divided between the grey box and blue box. The current list of what goes into each box is found here.

By separating your recyclable material properly, you’ll be helping us ensure more efficient service delivery. This means reduced costs for everyone since your recycling collection driver won’t be spending extra time sorting material at the curbside.

Items placed in a cardboard box or any container other than a standard Township-issued grey or blue box will not be picked up.

Large plastic items (such as plastic toys, broken laundry baskets, storage totes, lawn furniture, etc.) are not recyclable. However, they are qualifying items under our Free Large Item Disposal Opportunity.

What about organic items?

Loyalist Township does not have a green bin program for organic items. We encourage residents to consider backyard composting. Composters are sold at the Township's cost, $37 including HST, at the Odessa Municipal Office, which is significantly less than typical retail cost. Please visit our composting page for more information on this simple, low-cost, eco-friendly alternative!
